HARSH LIGHT, SOFT LIGH

THE CONCEPT

Inspired by Derrick Freske_ one of the most talented and brilliant photographers whom I follow on Instagram, has this bold and direct approach to how he works with the light colors which is amazing and captivating. This became the inspiration encouraged me to try the similar fashion.

MOODBOARD

As I’m striving for a clean, minimalistic, and modern look for my images, I believe it would be more beneficial and effective to broaden my sources of inspiration beyond Derrick's references. For my research, I’m trying to keep things simple but bold, especially in terms of colour combinations and the lens effect such as the fisheye one but since I don’t have a fisheye lens, it is best to mimic the look in the post-production phase, I think. The outcome may not appear as “obvious” as it will with the lens, but I hope it works to a certain point. But if not, there will always be alternative solutions for it. Furthermore, I’ve also searched for some posing tips and tricks from models in order to create some sort of depth or the “spark” for my images through negative and positive space, lines or curves, even shapes or so. It is easier and better to show my model the references so she’ll know what to do and we can just work from there forward, I think.

Originally, Rembrandt lighting is the technique I’m going after; however, other lighting setups are thoroughly considered to see if there might be a better fit for the concept. It is all about exploring and experimenting I believe.
